COMING SOON: Learn More About Hope

This website is (obviously) still under construction (plus, as you can tell, I’m not very good at design). Listed below are some links that can help you learn more about hope from a psychological/philosophical standpoint. I also hope to add some of my own thoughts/experiences with hope in the near future, but for now, I felt it urgent just to get this site/project up and running. Stay tuned, and continue to follow on Bluesky (@hopeonadollar.bsky.social) and Instagram (@hopeonadollar). Thank you, and remember: There is always hope!

  • In his 2024 book, The Spirit of Hope (purchase here, or read a synopsis here), Byung-Chul Han describes that hope, heroically, “arises in the face of the negativity of absolute despair.” Hope is never more available than when it seems unavailable. I’ll definitely be writing more about this one in the future.
  • Also in 2024, the American Psychological Association published their study, “Hope as the antidote,” about what hope is, and how you can cultivate it in your own life.
  • This journal entry from the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy digs deep into the history of Hope as a subject of study throughout the ages. Definitely worth a look to see how our notions have developed.
  • The topic of Hope can also be found all over the literary world, but I’ll link two of the most notable examples:
    • There is, of course, Emily Dickinson’s “’Hope’ is the thing with feathers.”
    • There’s also the entire Lord of the Rings saga from J.R.R. Tolkien. You can purchase the books, watch the movies, or, if you’re pressed for time, read this breakdown of Hope’s place in Middle Earth from Law&Liberty.
